How EDGE Sideline Replay Works

Connect

existing HD cameras to system.

The EDGE Recorders will connect to your existing press box and endzone cameras with an HDMI cable. All you need is a high definition camcorder with an HDMI out port.

EDGE Instant Replay Record

and stop plays with iPad app.

The Sport Scope iPad app allows one operator to start and stop the recording of multiple cameras at the same time giving you the same number of clips from each camera angle. All your camera operators have to do is point and zoom the cameras.

EDGE Instant Replay Replay

plays on iPad in 2-3 seconds.

After a play is captured by the EDGE Recorder, the play will automatically be sent to every iPad connected to the EDGE Network. Once the play is downloaded to your iPad, you will be able to instantly replay that clip over and over.

Upload

video and ODK directly into Hudl.

After the game is finished and you have an internet connection, upload your video clips and ODK from each angle to Hudl. Since EDGE Sideline Replay syncs all angles, your intercut will be extremely easy.

The Sport Scope 3-Point Network

EDGE Instant Replay

For a 2-Angle Replay System, two EDGE Recorders will connect to your existing press box and endzone cameras with an HDMI cable. You will then connect the network cables from the EDGE devices to the appropriate network equipment.

EDGE Instant Replay

The iPad Connection Point antennas will serve as the access points for your iPads to connect to. If you are in the Press Box, you'll locate the private WiFi network designated as Pressbox and connect in the settings of your iPad. The same procedure applies to iPads on the Sideline.

New to the 2020 Three Point Network is a new booster antenna that blasts the Sideline WiFi signal down your field's sideline.

EDGE Instant Replay

The Bridge antennas are what allows all data communication between EDGE devices and iPads. Once connected, point your Endzone Bridge antenna at the Pressbox. Perform the same for the Sideline Bridge antenna. In the Pressbox, point its Bridge antenna to the midway point between the Sideline and the Endzone Bridge. Look for the four lights and ensure levelness for optimal polarity and connection strength.

Pre-Installed Hardcases

The Pressbox Hardcase contains your router, power strip, and Pressbox EDGE Replay recording device. Simply connect power, your iPad and Bridge antennas to the router, and HDMI to the EDGE Recorder, and this station is ready to go. This will be your main hub and is recommended to set up first.

The Sideline Hardcase contains your Switch and power supply. The switch is slightly different than the Pressbox router. It's primary function is to allow communication between iPads and the Pressbox hub. Connect the iPad and Bridge antenna to the Switch and you're ready to go.

The Endzone Hardcase contains your POE injector, power supply, and Endzone EDGE Replay recording device. The injector is required to give power to the Endzone Bridge antenna, which will send your Endzone replay data to the Pressbox hub. Connect your HDMI cable from camera to the EDGE device and use an additional HDMI cable to stream your camera's video to a monitor screen at the base of your Endzone Camera tower.

Software & App Features

Upload

Video and ODK Directly into Hudl

After the game is finished and you have an internet connection, upload your video clips and ODK from each angle to Hudl. Since EDGE Sideline Replay syncs all angles, your intercut will be extremely easy. You can download your video and ODK files to the iPad and then drag and drop to Hudl straight from the tablet. Or, use iTunes to transfer your video and ODK files from the iPad to your computer and use Hudl Mercury to upload.

Full Control

Slow motion, fast forward and rewind each play.

The EDGE App allows the user to have full control over the video playback. Using the speed control meter at the top of the app, you can play each video clip in slow motion and fast forward, both in play and paused modes for simple control. The custom controls of the EDGE App allow forward and rewind with ergonomically positioned thumb buttons over the video player or the play can be scrubbed back and forth using the progress bar feature. Additionally, the play number is positioned in the top left-hand corner so you can quickly see exactly which play you're viewing.

Edge Instant Replay App

Visual

Color coded drives by ODK. Draw on video to quickly show players needed adjustments.

The EDGE App is designed to be very visual in order to help coaches find the plays they want to review fast. Drives are color coded by ODK and all other features were designed with the same intuitive and visual qualities. Draw over the video to visually show your players needed adjustments. You can draw with three colors: blue, red, yellow and can erase the drawings with the undo button. Drawing on the screen is the simplest way to communicate quickly to your players.

Easy & Predictive Play Tagging

Tag ODK, down & distance, hash, YL, play type, net yards and more.

EDGE Sideline Replay is the only software that has easy & predictive play tagging. With EDGE Tagging, an assistant coach or student can quickly tag each play with down, distance, hash, YL, play type, play result, net yards and more. EDGE Tagging is also predictive, which means it automatically keeps track of the down, distance, YL, hash, score, time of possession and more. It also predicts the most likely play results for every scenario. The play tagging is so quick and easy that is will become part of your standard workflow, which allows for features such as live game stats and opponent tendencies.

Multiple Synced Camera Angles

Sync your press box and end zone camera angles.

Connect as many EDGE Recorders to the EDGE Network as you want. Each box will automatically connect and sync with the others on the network. Press the record button in the EDGE iPad app and all the boxes will record and stop at the same time. Each angle will then download onto every iPad that is connected to the network.

EDGE Instant Replay Picture in Picture Angle Switching

See up to two angles on the video player.

Switch between angles by using the picture in picture (PIP) screen in the bottom right corner of the video player. The playback of each angle will stay synced as you switch between angles with the PIP.

Smart Features

Quickly sort clips by tagged information. Save clips to device to show in locker room at halftime.

The EDGE Replay App comes with many built in smart features that save coach's time and allow them to fully use EDGE Instant Replay to find and exploit their opponent's weaknesses. One of those features is the ability to quickly sort through clips based on the tagged information assigned to each play. This allows each coach to tailor the EDGE App to their coaching position and style. Offensive, defensive, and special teams coaches can filter the plays that matter the most to them, which eliminates clutter and gets them viewing the most valuable plays to quickly see what adjustments need to be made. Coaches can also save certain plays to their iPad and bring them into the locker room to show their players during halftime. This can be done without being connected to the wireless network because the plays are saved to the device.

Time Saver

Upload your synced video clips and ODK directly into hudl.

All the video clips that are recorded during a game are saved on the EDGE Recorder & your iPad. The plays can be easily accessed and uploaded to Hudl. You can easily tag each play by ODK, down & distance, hash, YL, play type, net yards, and much more. Each play is is color coordinated based on whether it's an offensive, defensive, or kicking play so they're easily identifiable. Once your video is on Hudl you can then import any ODK/tagging information that you did in your EDGE App into Hudl as well. This will save you time uploading video from your camera to your computer and also save you time coding the game's ODK info as well.

Automation

The EDGE software does everything for you. Just use the your iPad to record/stop each play.

The Sport Scope EDGE Replay app allows you to easily live tag a game with a few simple steps. Live tagging automatically generates in-game stats and opponent tendencies. Once you've begun tagging, when a new play gets recorded, EDGE will automatically assign down and distance to reflect the current position of the ball. Also, all tagged info (Down, Distance, Hash, Play Type, Play Result, YL, etc.) can be easily uploaded into Hudl after each game.

Game Stats & Opponent Tendencies

EDGE Sideline Replay's live tagging feature automatically records in-game stats and opponent tendencies.

The recorder is made out of aluminum, is powder coated, and all the ports are labeled for easy setup.

Weather Resistant

Protective hard cases to defend your equipment from weather.

Sensitive components are pre-mounted and protected against harsh weather in our protective cases. All iPad antennas and bridge antennas are rated for outdoor use.

Portable

Everything pre-installed in individual carrying cases.

Every component of the EDGE Replay system is pre-installed into small carrying cases with instructions on the inside. This gives you easy plug-and-play access, protection from weather, easy travel, and superior organization.

EDGE Sideline Replay includes all the networking hardware you need to create a private, closed, and powerful Wi-Fi network. Each iPad will connect to the EDGE Network and be able to download every play from the wireless router and antenna. Also, you will never need data packages or the internet to run the EDGE Replay system, it would work in the middle of nowhere.

Reliable

Works every time in small and large stadiums.

The EDGE Replay system was designed to have as few parts as possible and to use the best equipment available to create an extremely reliable system. All hardware components are directly connected to each other, the only wireless component is the Wi-Fi network, which works in both large and small stadiums.

Simple

Quick and easy setup with everything you need included.

The EDGE Sideline Replay system is extremely simple and easy to set up. Everything you need is included in the package and comes with easy to follow instructions. No Laptop Needed

Save time, space, and money by using the EDGE Recorder instead of a laptop.

The EDGE Recording Box eliminates the need for costly laptops, computer hardware, and capture cards. Everything you need to capture and process video is already inside.

EDGE Instant Replay Battery Powered

No Outlets Needed for Endzone or Sidelines

The EDGE Battery frees you from looking for power outlets in the endzone or sidelines while at home or on the road. The battery powers the endzone angle for 1 View or 2 View systems. We recommend using a power outlet in the press box for your router and antenna; this will ensure a stronger wireless network. Other replay systems may need power outlets in the press box as well as in the endzone and/or on the sidelines for their system to work.

Testimonials

"After talking with other teams that played there that weekend the EDGE system is the only one that I was told worked! Great system, easy to setup, easy to use. Great support . . ."
Randy Berkley, Director of Football Operations

"In 2018 we made it to the State Championship game at Tom Benson Hall Of Fame stadium. We had been using a different system all season with numerous problems. At last year's championship game it would not work at all and we got nothing from their support. No solution after rebooting and we tried for an hour and a half and got nothing. This season our previous replay provider sent us a new system with new antennas and guaranteed us it would work, but again we had problems all season and again back at the Tom Benson HOF stadium for our biggest rivalry game we got nothing at all, zero replay.

Sunday morning I'm on the phone with Dixie from Sport Scope and I explained what was going on and what I need for our playoff run. I had the new EDGE Replay in my office Wednesday morning. After five playoff games I had one problem so I called support and he set up a FaceTime video call with me and the problem was fixed in less then 5 minutes (the problem was me and how I set it up). Back at the NFL Hall Of Fame Stadium for the State Championship game we got there 3 hours early because we know the problems we've had there in the past and we got the EDGE system set up, turned it on and it worked flawlessly. So then we had two and a half hours to kill which I will not complain about. After talking with other teams that played there that weekend the EDGE system is the only one that I was told worked! Great system, easy to setup, easy to use. Great support! I'm looking forward to using it in the up-coming season because it has taken a ton of pressure off me because I know it works!"

"We had perfect EDGE Replay capabilities and are now STATE CHAMPIONS! We highly recommend Sport Scope products and commend the customer support . . ."
Jeff Klein, ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH

"We have been using the EDGE Replay System for the last two seasons and the system has contributed to our success. Our previous system was stolen mid-season last year. That company couldn’t help us. The team at Sport Scope not only got us what we needed. We had it the next day.

This year we played our way to the California State D1AA Championships. On Tuesday before the Friday Finals, we had wiring issues with the end zone camera. We called the company and came up with a plan Wednesday morning. We were leaving Thursday morning so they overnighted a new part to our hotel. It worked perfectly.

We had perfect EDGE Replay capabilities and are now STATE CHAMPIONS! We highly recommend Sport Scope products and commend the customer support, we plan to be a customer for the foreseeable future."

"Our replay system worked well in Mercedes-Benz Stadium when other replay systems were not working and I think having replay available was a big help in winning a very close state championship game . . ."
Michael Martin, Assistant Football Coach

"We made the switch to Sport Scope/EDGE Replay after a disastrous experience using a different sideline replay product in 2016. We've been extremely satisfied customers since the 2017 season. The customer service team is spectacular. Dixie is very proactive about making sure that we have everything that we need. I get a phone call from her almost every week checking in and keeping me updated. Any time I have an issue, I know who to call and I know they'll respond in a timely manner. They're very easy to get in touch with (even on Friday nights!) and I've never had a problem that the tech support team could not solve.

We had an issue where some of our equipment got weather-damaged by a freak storm and the team at Sport Scope made sure I had all the parts and supplies I needed to get my system in perfect working order in time for our next game the following week.

Our system has worked beautifully in some very large high school, college, and professional stadiums, including:

  • Godfrey Stadium, Decatur, GA (8,000 seats in a one-sided, concrete stadium).
  • Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, Hoover, AL (11,000 seats)
  • Hallford Stadium, Decatur, GA (15,000 seats)
  • Georgia State Stadium (formerly Turner Field, home of the Atlanta Braves, 24,000 seats)
  • Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA (home of the Atlanta Falcons, 71,000 seats)

Our sideline replay system worked well in Mercedes-Benz Stadium when some other replay systems were not working and I think having replay available was a big help in winning a very close state championship game. Overall, we could not be happier with the service, support, and professionalism of the folks at Sport Scope and we're even more pleased with the performance of their products."

"It was an awesome game experience! First time in our school’s 56 years that they have ever won a State Championship in football . . ."
Chris Howell, Head Football Coach

"We had the opportunity to play in three college stadiums (Utah State & University of Utah twice). I was very concerned that our system would not function properly considering the distance between the coach's box, sideline, & end zone camera. In every case the cameras & EDGE Replay functioned seamlessly!

It was an awesome game experience! First time in our school’s 56 years that they have ever won a State Championship in football! The Sport Scope Smart Camera system was so easy to set up and use. It played a huge role in our success. The EDGE Replay system was seamless & a huge advantage on game day! I loved how easy it was to upload film to Hudl as well! Great system, worth every cent!"

It has allowed us to make timely adjustments on the sideline by using the instant replay. I also wanted to let you know that the system worked flawlessly at our State Championship Game in Wallace Wade Stadium at Duke University. "It was quick to get the video from the camera to the sideline. Being able to get that feed to our coaches then having the ability to get that info to our players was priceless. We really enjoyed the quick set up. We did not have to mess with so many wires like before. The freedom that the operator had on the ground by having the ability to move around was great. It was so convenient to operate the camera remotely using an iPad! Simply amazing how far technology with endzone cameras have come and Sport Scope is leading the way. The ability to upload video directly from the iPad was quick and smooth. Saved our coaching staff so much time. We look forward to partnering with Sport Scope in the future!"

EDGE Replay FAQ

Is sideline instant replay illegal for high school football?
EDGE Replay is legal if you follow NFHS rules. In 2013 the NFHS released rule 1.6.1.2 which says: "NFHS Football Rules, rule 1.6.1.2: USE OF COMMUNICATION DEVICES EXPANDED (1-6): The committee has expanded use of communication devices to allow coaches, players and non-players to use any form of available communication technology during authorized conferences outside the 9-yard marks (7-yard marks in nine-, eight- and six-player competition), on the sidelines and during the halftime intermission period. Use of communication devices by players except during conferences outside the 9-yard marks continues to be prohibited."
Do I need Wi-Fi or Internet at my stadium?
No internet is required to run EDGE Replay because we create a closed, private network to run the system.
How much is your annual software fee and what is it for?
The annual software fee is $499 starting in year 2 and covers unlimited angles. The software fee covers updates and new features for the software on your EDGE Recorder boxes. Each year in April your boxes will expire and will need a new license to work again.
Do I need a laptop to run the system?
EDGE Replay comes with an EDGE Recorder box for each camera angle and replaces the need for laptops to run the system.
What iPads do you recommend?

See our iPad Compatibility page for continual updates on current compatible iPads as Apple releases new product and/or software updates to existing devices.

How many iPads can I use?
Up to 7 iPads can be used with EDGE Replay.
How fast do videos download?

  • 10 second clip = 1-2 seconds
  • 30 second clip = 2-3 seconds
  • 60 second clip = 4-8 seconds

How long does it take to set up?
Initial setup takes about 30 minutes, after a few uses setup drops to around 10-15 minutes for two angles.
How many people does it take to run the system?
1 person can operate the recordings for the system (for any number of angles) with a single iPad. The coaches will receive the replays on their iPads automatically. It's recommended to have 2 people for best results of controlling the recording capture and live tagging: 1 person hitting start/stop and 1 person tagging each play on the Sport Scope iPad app.
What cameras are compatible?
Virtually all Sony camcorders are compatible with EDGE Replay and are what we recommend. Some special exceptions that are also compatible include the Canon G30, G40, XA30, XA20, and others. However, you will need to adjust a setting on the camera for the video feed to be compatible. If you do not have a Sony camcorder or one of the listed Canon cameras you must call Sport Scope at 888-335-7875 first to confirm compatibility before making your purchase.
Do I need power in the end zone or on the sideline?
EDGE Replay comes with a long lasting battery for use in the endzone. There is no power needed on the sidelines because our wireless network is extremely powerful.
How do I upload to Hudl?
After the game you can transfer your video clips from your iPad to your laptop with iTunes which takes about 5-10 minutes. Then you upload each angle into Hudl Mercury. You can also upload a spreadsheet that contains tagging data if you use the built-in live tagging part of the Sport Scope app. You can also upload to Hudl directly from the iPad itself. Visit our support page for video tutorials!
How many angles can I have?
You can have unlimited angles.
Does EDGE Replay have in-games stats and tendencies?
Yes. By utilizing the built-in live tagging in the EDGE Reply app, you will start to receive live game stats and also be able to filter out your opponent’s tendencies with run/pass reports and more.
Why does your system cost less than others?
EDGE Replay requires less networking equipment, no laptops, and one small case which brings down the cost of the system. We also have over 5 years of manufacturing experience and have developed a cost-effective replay computer called the EDGE Recorder. These recorders have fewer parts, which cost much less to manufacture than our competitors.
Do I need an HD endzone screen?
An endzone screen with a HDMI input is recommended, however there are ways to convert HDMI to work with standard definition screens. Please contact us for more information.
Do I need HDMI cables?
No, EDGE Replay comes with two endzone HDMI cables and one press box HDMI cable.
Do I need a HDMI splitter?
No, each EDGE Recorder box has a built-in HDMI splitter to run the video signal to an external screen for an endzone camera or press box camera.
